Dr. Roger M. Leblanc received his B. S. in chemistry in 1964 from Universite Laval, Canada, and Ph. D. in physical chemistry in1968 from the same university. He was appointed as professor in 1994 and chair of Department of Chemistry at University of Miami from 1994 to 2002 and again from 2013 to 2021. He was also one of the three editors of Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces from 1998 to 2013. He has published 540 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. As a professor, he has supervised more than 100 M.S. and Ph.D. students.

J. Barbara Nebe is an adjunct Professor of Cell Biology, and chair of the Department of Cell Biology in the RostockUniversity Medical Center, Germany. Dr. Richard J. Spontak is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Professor of Materials Science & Engineering, and Alumni Distinguished Graduate and Undergraduate Professor at North Carolina State University. He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (with honors/high distinction) from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983 and was later awarded the Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. He then pursued post-doctoral research in Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) and Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute for Energy Technology (Norway) before joining the Corporate Research Division of The Procter & Gamble Company in 1990. In 1992, he accepted a faculty position at North Carolina State University, where he supervises the Macromolecular Materials & Morphology Group. Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a year at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at the treatment of liver cancer. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguish Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include the development of the world first synthetic trachea, lacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. Currently, he is working on the development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene-based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology. Recently he has commercialised a novel functionalised graphene oxide for medical and other industrial applications and synthetic graphene-based nanocomposite materials for surgical and medical devices application. Professor Kanematsu, a Fellow of the ASM International (the USA) and a Fellow of IMF (The United Kingdom), is a Professor Emeritus at the National Institute of Technology at Suzuka College and a Visiting Professor for Nagoya University. He holds a M. Eng. degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Nagoya University in Japan. He has been an active researcher in the areas of Surface Science and Engineering Materials for many years and has over 600 academic publications. He has numerous honors to his name including Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award (which is considered the number one prize from the Minister of Education in the Japanese government).

Prof. Denis Dowling has over 30 years experience in working in all aspects of materials science. He directs the Science Foundation Ireland funded I-Form Advanced ManufacturingCentre, which is headquartered at University College Dublin (UCD). This Centre currently had nearly 60 PhD / Post-doc researchers along with an10-member operations team. The research focus is on materials processing (particularly additive manufacturing), as well as the integration of digital technologies into the manufacturing environment. JingweiXie received his B.S. and M.S. from Nanjing University of Technology, China, and his Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore (2007). He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Xia group at Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Surgery-Transplant and Holland Regenerative Medicine Program at University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is also an adjunct faculty in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research interests include biomaterials, drug delivery, nanomedicine, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, wound infection and healing, and hemostasis.

In 1992, she received the award for top academic achievement in Chemistry and was selected to study at the University of Amsterdam under a NUFFIC (the Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education) program, under which she embarked on a career in research.In 1994, she was selected for an EU-funded PhD position in Biochemistry. She developed a method to analyse different types of lipids in rat kidney and urine to study the renal toxicity of N-phenyl anthranilic acid, an agent inducing renal papillary necrosis and mefenamic acid, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug. The outcome was that lipids could be used as a non-invasive marker for renal papillary necrosis, a major disease caused by long term abuse of analgesic drugs. In 1999, she undertook postdoctoral work in medicinal chemistry at Aston University and developed a method to synthesise new cell membrane-permeable fluorescent analogues of the cyclic nucleotide second messengers, cAMP and cGMP, as sensors to study cellular mechanisms of memory storage. This first postdoc period provided her with advanced practical experience in chemical synthesis, which proved very valuable for her later research in nanotechnology. In 2001, she moved to the United States to take advantage of pioneering work in nanotechnology, an emerging and rapidly growing field of science. She brought together her previous skills to synthesise nanoparticle-based sensors for biological assays. An important feature of this first phase of work in BioNanotechology was the demonstration of the power of nanotechnological tools to simplify conventional bioanalytical assays, which results in substantial cost and time savings at the point of use. She developed a unique, sensitive, and highly specific immunoassay system for antibodies using Au nanoparticles (NPs). This baptism in nanotechnology in the USA gave her an insight into the field and convinced her that this was where her future lay.

Africa Gonzalez is Full Professor of Immunology, at the University of Vigo. She is also co-founder of the spin-off NanoImmunoTech (NIT), a company specialized in the synthesis and functionalization of nanoparticles and their use in biosensing.

Alberto Tagliaferro was born in 1957. He got his degree in Nuclear Engineering and his PhD in Physics at Polytechnic of Turin. He is Associate Professor in the Applied Science and Technology Department of Polytechnic of Turin. He is head of the Carbon Group, a research group founded in 2002. His research interest have moved in recent years to carbon materials from green sources and waste for a number of applications, ranging form biochar fillers for composites to carbon dots for therapeutic uses. He has published more than 200 papers on Scientific Journals. He is member of the Editorial Board of a few journals including CREST. He is Chair of the Education Committee of IUVSTA (International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications). He is adjunct professor at the OntarioTech University in Canada. His group collaborates with many other research groups worldwide.

Dr. Beola has been focused their research career on the study of magnetic hyperthermia as antitumoral strategy on different in vitro and in vivo models, having worked in several groups in different countries. She graduated in Biochemistry in University of Havana (UH) in 2013, and then undertook a Master's in Biochemistry in UH. Including the finished of her PhD in 2020, their research work has taken place and consolidation in different institutions: Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM, Havana, Cuba) during her undergraduate stage, she worked as Junior Researcher in the laboratories of the Center of Advanced Studies of Cuba (CEAC, Havana, Cuba). She began her predoctoral research in 2016 in the BioNanoSurf group at the University of Zaragoza (Unizar, Zaragoza, Spain), through a Mobility Fellowship for Latin Americans. Within the PhD thesis framework, she developed an important part of her research in the Aragon Biomedical Research Center (CIBA, Zaragoza, Spain), including research stays in the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM/CSIC, Madrid, Spain) in 2016, and The Nova University of Lisbon (Department of Life Sciences-FCT/UNL, Lisbon, Portugal) in 2019, this last, supported by an Erasmus + Pre-Doctoral Programme and an Iberoamerican Mobility Grants, respectively. Currently, she is a Post-Doc in the Smart BioInterfaces group of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) within framework SLaMM-ERC-StG project.

Dr. Hirotoshi Endo received his Bachelor’s degree in Science from Waseda University, Japan, and Master’s degree and Ph. D. in Science from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has been working on biomineralization of various marine organisms, such as crustaceans, fishes, mollusks, corals and algae. Recently, his research interests focus on calcified marine microalgae called Coccolithophores (Haptophyta). Toward the carbon neutrality, he is trying to utilize the unique algae for CCUS (Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization or Storage) system to reduce CO2 in the air as well as in the ocean.

Dr. Andrei Chumakov,Scientist at the P03 beamline at the synchrotron PETRA III, (DESY, Hamburg, Germany). PhD was graduated at the St Petersburg University (Russia)followed by a postdoctoral fellow at the European Synchrotron ESRF (Grenoble, France). Field of interest: GISAXS/SAXS, GIWAXS/WAXS, SANS, 2D and 3D nanostructures, magnetic nanoparticles.

Brana Jelenkovic is the physics professors at the Photonic Center of the Institute of Physics University of Belgrade. His research fields are nonlinear and quantum optics, classical and quantum biophotonics. Since 2012 he is member of the Serbian Academy of Science and Art.

Dr. Anna-Maria Pappa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Khalifa University and a visiting scholar at Cambridge University. She was previously an Independent Oppenheimer research fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge University and the Maudslay-Butler Research Fellow in Engineering at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Dr. Anna-Maria has a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Nanotechnology (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece). She completed her PhD studies in 2017 (University of Lyon, France) working on bioelectronic devices for healthcare diagnostics. In 2017 she received the L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science award for developing an innovative platform that can be used to test the efficacy of newly synthesized antibiotics and in 2019 she was listed on the Innovators under 35 MIT technology review. Dr. Anna-Maria is currently an associate editor of Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Electronics. Her current research interests lie in bio-integrated electronics, using polymeric semiconductors and synthetic biology to develop hierarchically organized biological models for point-of-care sensors.

Dr. Xing-Jie Liang got his Ph.D at National Key Laboratory of Biomacromolecules, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He finished his postdoc with Dr. Michael M. Gottesman (Deputy Director of NIH, USA and Academician member of US national academy of sciences) for 5 years at Laboratory of Cell Biology, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Then, he worked as a Research Fellow at Surgical Neurology Branch, NINDS (National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Strokes, NIH) for 2 years. In 2007, he was an Assistant professor at Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, Howard University. Dr. Liang currently is deputy director of Key Laboratory for Biomedical Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lab Chief of Laboratory of Controllable Nanopharmaceuticals, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology of China. He is also leading a group on nanopharmaceuticals at the CAS Center for Excellence in Nanoscience and Chief Lecture Professor of Nanobiology at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Nadia Benkirane is Research director (DR1) at INSERM (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research) and head of the "Regenerative Nanomedicine" laboratory, UMR 1260 Inserm-Unistra, Strasbourg, France. She was leader of "Active Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering" team INSERM 977. She received her Ph.D. from University Louis Pasteur, ULP, Strasbourg, France for the work on Development of pseudopeptides as synthetic vaccines. Dr. Jessel (Benkirane) then held a postdoctoral position in collaboration with the Institute Pasteur, Paris, France, working on Immunotherapy HIV, and another postdoctoral position on the application of modified peptides as vaccines against FMDV (Plum Island Animal Disease Center, ARS, USDA, Greenport, NY 11944-0848, USA). She joined the INSERM U595 in 2002 as a post-doc, and received the diploma to direct the research (HDR) in 2004. Dr. Jessel got the permanent position (CR1) in the INSERM 595 laboratory in 2004 and Research Director (DR2) position in the INSERM 977 and head of "active Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering team from 2009 until 2012). Currently Research Director (DR1) and head of the INSERM UMR 1260 (Regenerative Nanomedicine. Dr. Jessel possesses expertise in diverse fields of molecular and cellular biology, immunochemistry, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering. In the last 10 years, she focused her research on the bio-functionalization of multilayered polyelectrolyte architectures with emphasis on the use of these architectures to induce specific cellular responses and gain control over cell proliferation and differentiation. Dr. Benkirane-Jessel has more than 138 publications (h index: 36) with peer-reviewed publications in high impact factor journals (Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA; Adv. Mater; Adv. Funct. Prof. Christophe Drouet expertise is in Biomedical Engineering. Listed as 2% Highly Cited Researchers in Stanford survey 2021), C. Drouet has aPh.D in Materials Science and spent 3 years in UCDavis, USA, as Research Associate. He is a permanent Senior Scientist at the CIRIMAT Institute, University of Toulouse, France ( research group). A special focus in C. Drouet's research is dedicated to the investigation of calcium phosphates and related compounds, in particular of biomimetic nanocrystalline apatites analogous to bone mineral, for which he contributed to develop the model of the hydrated amorphous layer on apatite nanocrystals, with the view to develop innovative biomedical applications (bone regeneration, nanomedicine : oncology, hematology, dermatology..) but also for a better understanding of biomineralization and of bone diagenetic processes, C. Dr William Wise (BSc, MSc, PhD, MRSC) completed his PhD at the University of Leicester (UK) in 2011. Although his PhD was in organic chemistry he subsequently changed his research direction and specialised in the biopolymer field; using ionic liquids to modify starch based materials, some of which are in the process of being commercialised. After starting his post as a Senior Lecturer in Leather Science at The Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (University of Northampton) in May 2014 he is now applying this same technology to the field of leather manufacture with some promising and intriguing preliminary results.

Dr. Huile Gao received his PhD in Pharmaceutics from School of Pharmacy, Fudan University in 2013. Then he joined the West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University. Dr. Gao’s research interests focus on the design, synthesis, characterization and evaluation of stimuli responsive nanomaterials for drug delivery to improve tumor and brain diseasestreatment. He is thehighly cited scientist (Clarivate Analytics), 2020 highly cited Chinese researcher (Scopus), and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles with an H-index of 56. He served as editor of the books “neurotoxicity of nanomaterials and nanomedicines” and “Brain Targeted Drug Delivery Systems”. Julio C. M. Souza has a license degree in dentistry (DDS) and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in materials science & engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). He accomplished his PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Minho (UMinho, Portugal) in cooperation with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven, Belgium) in 2010. Since his MSc project on the development of ceramic and metal-ceramic prostheses for dentistry, Dr. Souza has focused on the synthesis and physicochemical characterization of different biomedical materials for orthopedics, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and implant dentistry. Furthermore, he has developed novel methods to assess the physicochemical properties of materials in contact with microrganisms under simulated oral environments. Also, Dr. Souza worked as lecturer and scientific researcher on biomedical dental materials at UFRN and Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), in Brazil in cooperation with UMinho, KU Leuven, and University of Illinois (USA). Currently, Dr. Souza is an assistant professor at the University Institute of Health Science (IUCS), CESPU, Portugal. Also, he is also a collaborative researcher at the Center for MicroElectroMechanical Systems (CMEMS-UMINHO). Within the last 5 years, a publication rate of approximately 17 articles/year in international scientific indexed (ISI) journals has been accomplished considering advisement of PhD and MSc students on a dynamic scientific mobility in the research network. Up to date, he has published a total of 138 articles were published in ISI journals. Also, 3 books were published by GrupoA, Elsevier, and Aeditora publishers and 11 projects were approved by FCT (Portugal) and CAPES/CNPq (Brazil). Dr. Souza was the main advisor on 34 MSc theses and co-advisor in 3 PhD theses. Currently, he is the main advisor on 5 PhD and 5 MSc projects. He also acts as a collaborative researcher in 2 ongoing FCT projects, namely POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030498 FunImp, and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031035 LaserMULTICER, and 4 ongoing CAPES/CNPq projects such as CAPES-PRINT 88887.578105/2020-00, CNPQ302071/2017-2, CNPq110831/2020-2, and MCTIC/CNPq421229/2018-7. Prof. Carriel carried out research stays in the Tissue Engineering group of the University of Ghent, Belgium. He is currently Professor of Histology and Tissue Engineering at the University of Granada, and carries out his research activities in the areas of Histology and Histopathology, Tissue Engineering, and Neurosciences. He has published in high-impact journals, highlighting: Histochemistry & Cell Biology, Journal of Neural Engineering, Journal Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, Cell Tissue Organs, Tissue Engineering, Plos One, Placenta, J. Alireza Dolatshahi‐Pirouz received his Ph.D. in physics from Aarhus University in 2009 and then took on a postdoctoral‐research position at the Wyss Institute of Biologically Inspired Engineering and Harvard Medical School. He joinedTechnical University of Denmarkas an Assistant Professor in 2015 and later onstarted his own research group,#TeamBioEngine, at DTU Nanotech. Currently, the group is a part of the newly launch department, Health Technology, and their research lies at the crossroads of biology, engineering, physics, chemistry and biomaterials. #TeamBioEngine aim tocreate advanced material innovations based on bioinspired discoveries, and they believe such bioinspired materials and complex nanostructures will drive the engine of the next big revolution in material science. They are trying to explore interesting green solutions in the fields of nanomedicine, electronics and tissue engineering. Along this vein,they introduced Fleco-ionicsand Fleconessin 2019, which offers a huge leap forwardtowards foldable substrates for flexible electronics. What’s more,the team is currently working on developing new self‐healable and stretchable materials with high electrical sensitivity for applications within the emerging fields of flexible electronics, cyborganics, and soft robotics.In 2018, Alireza Dolatshahi‐Pirouz received a VIDI Grant to further develop his innovative research on regenerative biomaterials at Radboudumc.To date he has published close to 90 papers–most published in medium to high impact journals. He is also a highly cited young researcher with his citations numbering 4730 and an h-index of 41 according to Google Scholar.

Inez graduated as a Master of Biomedical Sciences (specialization: Environmental Health Sciences) in July of 2019 at Hasselt University. She did her master thesis on the application of electroactive bacteria for wastewater purification at the X-lab (Hasselt university) and the Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology (CMET, Ghent University). After this, her interest in the diverse application potential of microbial communities was spiked but she wanted to go back to her biomedical roots by applying to a project that had it all: the 3D intestine FWO project. This project aims to develop an in vitro model for the small intestinal ecosystem by combining a microbial community, human cell lines, hydrogels and 3D printing. Senay Mihcin received her Ph.D. degree in Computational Biomechanics from Loughborough University, UK, in 2008, which was funded by Engineering and Physical Sciences of Research Council, UK (EPSRC). Afterwards, she worked as a research assistant at Computer Science on crash simulations using model "Expecting" for producing guidelines for automobile designers and manufacturers. She also worked as research fellow at mechanical engineering department of University of Leeds on "Kinematic FE Modelling of Cervical Spine". Later on she moved on gaining experience in industry in Manchester, UK, at Simulation Solutions Ltd, a producer of simulatorsfor artificial implants. She also took a role as a team leader at Medical School of Dundee University on translation of research into the clinics for EU funded FP7 project called "Trans-fusimo". After successful completion of this project, Dr Mihcin joined in University College of London, UCL for more translation of research activities, working on quality management of the translational projects for novel medical devices and methods as a part of Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) centre. Dr Mihcin got awarded under TUBITAK 2232 International Outstanding Research Fellows funding scheme with a total budget of 3680000TL, and she started her own research lab at Izmir Institute of Technology, she is currently a faculty member as an Assistant Professor, at IZTECH, Mechanical Engineering department. Dr Yugen Zhang is a Senior Principal Investigator at the Institute of Bioengineering and Bioimaging (IBB), A*Star, Singapore. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1987, where he received his PhD in Chemistry in 1992. After his PhD, he joined USTC as a faculty member and was promoted to Professor in 1999. He visited Riken (Japan) (1996 to 1997, 2000 to 2001), where he worked as visiting scholar in Prof. Zhaomin Hou’ group. Before he joined IBN in 2004, he had been working at Harvard University as a post-doctoral research associate in Prof. RH Holm’s group (2002-2004). He has co-authored more than 210 papers and 50 patents. His current main research areas include: (1) antimicrobial technologies, focusing on development of green antimicrobial technologies and their applications in infection control and food security; (2) advanced biomaterials and their applications in medical devices; (3) green chemistry for industrial applications. His current research work is supported by several major funding agencies, including NRF-CRP (2018-2023), IAF-ICP (2018-2021), and several industrial RCAs (2017-2021).
