Prof. Richard B. Hoover began work in Aerospace Research at the Astrionics Laboratory of the NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center in 1966. His initial work was on the development of Laser Ranging Retroreflectors (LRRR) for tracking and guidance of the Saturn V moon rocket. Laser Ranging Retroreflectors were carried to the Moon on the Apollo 11, 14 and 15 missions, and half a century later are still returning important scientific data from the lunar surface. Hoover developed the x-ray telescope and served as Co-Investigator (Co-I) for the Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) Experiment S-056 which produced 25,000 high-resolution x-ray images of the Sun from the first space station, SKYLAB. He was Principal Investigator (PI) for several Solar and Cosmic X-ray Astronomy space instruments flown on sounding rockets from White Sands, New Mexico and Woomera, South Australia. Prof. Hoover holds 13 US and 2 International Patents. In 1992, he was presented to NASA Inventor of the Year Award and was nominated National Inventor of the Year. In 1997, Richard B. Hoover established the Astrobiology Research Group at MSFC and was Co-I for two of the initial NASA Virtual Astrobiology Institutes. In this role, Hoover investigated microfossils in ancient terrestrial rocks and carbonaceous meteorites with Dr. David McKay, (PI-NASA/JSC) and Academician Alexei Yu. Rozanov, Director, Paleontological Institute (PIN-RAS) in Moscow and microbial extremophiles with Dr. Kenneth Nealson (PI-NASA/JPL) in Deep Vostok Ice Cores, ice caves and ancient permafrost. Hoover organized and served as Science Team Lead for scientific expeditions to many of the most hostile environments of Earth. In 2001, he was elected Fellow National of the Explorers Club in recognition of his work leading scientific expeditions to polar regions of the Earth. Samples collected during these expeditions resulted in the discovery and valid publication of 1 new Family; 6 new Genera and 15 new species of bacteria and archaea. Recent Scanning Electron Microscopy studies at NASA/MSFC and JINR resulted in the discovery and publication of indigenous fossils of cyanobacteria and diatoms in the Orgueil CI1 carbonaceous meteorite. Prof. Richard B. Hoover is Honorary Life Member of the Planetary Studies Foundation. He is currently NASA-Emeritus, United States Space and Rocket Center and Visiting Research Professor, Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology. He has Authored/Edited over 400 scientific papers and 50 volumes on X-ray Optics, Solar Physics, Diatoms, Bacteria, Microfossils and Meteorites. He Chaired over 50 SPIE Conferences and was 2001 SPIE President and served on the Boards of Directors of the Council of Scientific Society Presidents and of SPIE (1989-2002). In 2009, Prof. Hoover was awarded the SPIE Gold Medal of the Society. From 1978 to 1994, Professor Agarwal worked in various scientific and managerial positions at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in St. Louis. He became the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow in 1990. From 1976 to 1978, Professor Agarwal worked as a NRC Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center and as a Principal Research Engineer at Rao and Associates in Palo Alto, California from 1975 to 1976. Dr Bin Chen is a Professor in the State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1993 and 1996 at Xi’an Jiaotong University in Cryogenic Engineering, and in 2002 he received his Ph.D. in Thermal Engineering there. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science from 2002 to 2004 at the University of Tokyo. Dr. Zhendong Dai is director and founder of the Institute of Bio-inspired Structure and Surface Engineering (IBSS) at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA). He is Professor of Astronautics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering. He set up a theory of tribo-irreversible thermodynamics and used the idea to understand coupling interaction among various factors by ENTROPY. In 2000, he jointed Grob’s biological group in Institute of Development Biology, Max-Plank-Institute, Tuebingen, Germany, where he learned the language of biology, and got feeling that what engineers may learn from biology and can do for biology. He designed the 3D sensors when he was in Germany He attracted Prof. Sun from Beijing University and collaborated cordially, Dai and the staffs got training biological knowledge and learn to speak with biologist. He and Sun drawn a schedule for IBSS, and closely worked together in finding a way to stimulate animals locomotion, esp. gecko and pigeon, and by this way to understand how brain work during locomotion and how biological robot can be set up. He was acutely aware the importance of reaction force in clearly understanding the locomotion, developed 3D force sensors and set up a facility to measure the 3D reaction force and to observe the motion behaviors simultaneously. He and his group find the different of reaction force pattern when gecko moving on floor, wall, ceiling and even various inclined surfaces, which greatly inspired the design of gecko-mimicking robots. The technology also be used for understanding the role of forelimb of frog during jumping, the behavior of locust when the incline changes. At the same time, the adhesive mechanism and the detaching technique used by gecko were subtly investigated; the adhesive structures mimicking setae were developed by self-growing carbon nanotube array technology, gecko mimicking adhesive elements and the robot were developed for the applications in space and vacuum. To meet the requirement of applications, such as light-weight load-carrying materials, heat-transferring, high-performance lead cell, electromagnetic shielding, many scientific questions and key technique were studied. Those works by he and his group are admitted by scientific and industrial societies, he has be pointed as boarding member of various journals, stand member of various academic societies. He has charged number of important projects, including two NSFC key projects and three key international collaboration projects. He has authored 6 books and more than 400 peer reviewed papers. He is a Professional Engineer in Mechanical, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering, completed PhD in 1972 and Dr Tech Sc in 1993. He worked as an Engineer at a company and Lecturer in universities of Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia. He is a Professor of Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University. Merouane SALHI received his D.Sc in aeronautical engineering from institute of aeronautics and aerospace studies at the university of Blida 1, specifying in propulsion systems design and supersonic aerodynamics. He also get his habilitation (post-doc) in mechanical engineering, he is currently an associate professor (Lecturer grade A) at mechanical engineering department, he worked eight years as an assistant professor at the Institute of Aeronautics and space studies, he teaches many lectures as Computer Programming, Mathematics, Vibrations and waves, Materials Resistance ,Aerodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods, Computational fluid dynamics CFD, Finite Element Analysis FEA, Heat transfer and heat exchangers. His research interests include also Aerodynamics, Fluid Dynamics and supersonic flows, Finite Element Analysis FEA, Heat transfer, heat exchangers, Propulsion and Supersonic Nozzles design; actually he is a member in many journals and conferences as editor or conferences organisation and scientific member, he has also many high level papers and conferences proceedings on the field of research.
